It is cold here at iTech News. We have not invested in a gas or traditional l electric heater. Instead we have been using GPU mining rigs that are a couple of years old (Vega 64). Since our rigs are getting old, we started looking at getting new hardware this year. Now, we are waiting until the new RX 6800 are released and reviews are published.
So, what would the next iTech News mining rig look like? Well, it depends. There are two possible configurations for GPUs and possible proof-of-storage mining additions (change of motherboard, CPU, and storage option).
1. NVIDIA GPUs
If we were to go for Nvidia GPUs, we would purchase 3 RTX 3080s. We would likely stick with a cheap Intel processor due to motherboards availability and will have no reason to go for proof-of-storage.
2. AMD GPUs
If we were to go for AMD GPUs, we would purchase 3 RX 6800. We would go with an Ryzen 5 2600, if we were solely going for GPU mining. On the other hand, if we were to go for proof-of-storage, mining a Ryzen 9 would be on the list.
Despite which we will go for, if there is enough interest, we want to sell these mining rigs and mining rig t-shirts (assuming there is enough stock of GPUs). Stay tuned for more details and the availability if we decide to sell these mining rigs.
