Ever since the original butterfly keyboard failure on the 2015 MacBook Pro, Apple has continually updating their butterfly keyboard design that still fails. They have even gone as far as to release an updated third generation with the 2019 MacBook Pro. Why has Apple insisted on keeping this failing design instead of reverting to the older yet nearly problem free scissor mechanism?

While we may never know the exact answer to this, we can always speculate. Some could speculate that Apple does not want to give in and admit a failure by changing designs so soon. While others say that Apple is simply trying to prefect the mechanism.
Apple could be waiting on their engineering department to create a thinner scissor mechanism keyboard. One the big advantages that Apple was pushing for the butterfly keyboard was the ability to have a thinner keyboard and therefore a thinner laptop.
What if Apple is nearing the edge of what is possible with current materials and manufacturing for the thinnest Mac notebooks? Apple may not be able to push forward and make thinner laptops due to heat from the CPU and GPU and the materials used to inclose the hardware. Apple’s design is already amazingly thin, why does it need to get any thinner? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
